Coventry, Rhode Island (February 12, 2013) - Neptune-Benson, LLC (Neptune-Benson), leading manufacturer of commercial aquatic filtration systems, announced today that its award-winning Defender® Regenerative Media Filters have been selected for the 2013 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
Once again, the Defender® filters will be paired with two removable Myrtha pools - a 50x25x3 meter competition pool and a 50x20x2 meter training pool. Myrtha's stainless steel, panel-constructed pools are not only an ideal solution for this type of temporary installation; but they have also set the standard as the world's fastest pools, making Defender® the perfect complement as the world's finest aquatic filter. The two companies have teamed up on several occasions in this fashion, converting large capacity indoor arenas into the temporary center of the aquatics universe.
Previously, Myrtha and Neptune-Benson collaborated to convert Omaha Nebraska's 17,000 seat CenturyLink Center to a world-class aquatic center for both the 2008 and 2012 US Olympic Swimming Trials. This year, Barcelona's 16,000 seat Palau Sant Jordi indoor sporting arena which was home to the gymnastics, handball and volleyball competitions of the 1992 Summer Olympics, will play host to FINA's World Aquatic Championships.
The event's diving competitions will be held at the Piscina de Montjuic and waterpolo at the neighboring Piscines Bernat Picornell; both of which will also utilize a combination of Myrtha and Defender® systems. The outdoor Piscina de Montjuic diving complex gained notoriety during the 92 Barcelona games, offering spectacular views of the city's skyline as a backdrop to the event.
"We are honored to have been selected once again to provide the filters for another premier aquatic event" said Mike Griffin, Neptune-Benson's President. "While the efficiency and performance of the Defender filter make it practical for these temporary installations, it's the crystal clear water produced by Defender® that delights spectators and swimmers alike. We look forward to this opportunity for Europeans and other International visitors to see the Defender® technology in action."
As with previous installations of this type, Defender's compact footprint makes it an ideal complement by Myrtha Pools' state-of-the-art aquatic technology; requiring as little as 1/4th of the mechanical space normally required for a traditional sand filter installation. This space-efficient design allows Myrtha's engineers to take advantage of room below the pool deck to house the filters instead of adding the expense to create a separate mechanical room. The Defender filter also removes particulate as small as 1 micron, creating the cleanest, healthiest and fastest competition water available anywhere.
Defender® provides a number of environmental and economic benefits as well, reducing water consumption by 90% and energy and chemical consumption by 50% and 30% respectively.
